About

The exhibition “Scopic” represents the output of artists, Gerry Blake, Paul Coffey, Paul Dickinson, William Eames and Aisling McCoy.
Each artist has taken a subjective documentary approach to themes of living and working in the contemporary world, looking at the making of place, both physical and symbolic, and how places represent the society which creates them. A common thread is that place has a meaning greater than its physical existence: ersatz shopfronts that provide a facade to a broken society; a utopian building conceived 60 years ago as a prototype for future living but reimagined in the summer of 2014; a suburban house where the future is precarious; urban wastelands transformed into productive community development areas and theatres where dull everyday lives can be transported briefly to a greater imaginary world.
